Following a tense meeting which ended in deadlock between Trump and Zelensky, 33 world leaders have declared their support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The meeting, which took place at the Oval Office on Friday, ended in a deadlock over a minerals deal that would grant the US extensive access to Ukraine’s rare earth resources in exchange for continued support against Russia.
According to reports, the meeting was marked by heated arguments between Zelensky and Trump, with US Vice President JD Vance also in attendance.
The tensions escalated when Vance accused Zelensky of being “disrespectful” and questioned whether he had ever expressed gratitude to the US.
Despite the public fallout, Zelensky took to social media to express his gratitude to Trump, the US Congress, and Americans for their support.
“Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that,” he wrote.
The meeting has sparked a wave of support for Ukraine from world leaders, with many taking to social media to condemn Russia’s actions in Ukraine and reaffirm their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was among the first to express his support, condemning Russia’s “illegal and unjustifiable invasion” of Ukraine.
“For three years now, Ukrainians have fought with courage and resilience. Their fight for democracy, freedom, and sovereignty is a fight that matters to us all. Canada will continue to stand with Ukraine and Ukrainians in achieving a just and lasting peace,” Trudeau wrote.
French President Emmanuel Macron also weighed in, criticizing Russia’s actions and defending the sanctions imposed three years ago.
“Thanks to all those who helped and continue. And respect to those who, since the beginning, have been fighting. Because they are fighting for their dignity, their independence, for their children, and for the security of Europe,” Macron stated.
Other world leaders, including Slovenian President Nataša Musar, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, and Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, also expressed their support for Ukraine, condemning Russia’s aggression and reaffirming their commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty.
The show of support from world leaders comes as a boost to Ukraine’s efforts to resist Russian aggression and achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the international community stands firmly behind Ukraine in its fight for freedom and sovereignty.
