3 Weeks After Election, LASIEC Fails To Pay Ad-hoc Staff

For nearly a month after the much talked about Local Government Elections were held in the State, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission is yet to pay the Ad-hoc staff who were hired for the exercise.

A supervisor of the exercise who confided in BlackBox Nigeria disclosed that it is not clear when they will be paid yet as the Commission has not communicated with any staff since they completed their duties.

The Supervisor stated that apart from not been paid for the actual exercise, the Commission is also yet to pay anything for their training which preceeded the elections.

When BBN asked about the possibilities of the payment been delayed from the office of the Governor, the Supervisor stated that all funds have been released before the commencement of the exercise as it was the normal standard.

The supervisor disclosed that it was not possible for the State Government to hold on to the payment of salary of the Ad-hoc staff as they are not directly under the Government, and only hired for the exercise.

It will b recalled that the July 22nd LGA Elections was adjudged successful despite the low turn out of registered voters. The Commission has been receiving commendations from residents, observation groups and other stakeholders as all the Ad-hoc staff carried out their respective duties diligently.
