Promoting Ikorodu’s Culture, Tradition and Conducive environment were talking moments of Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, Chairman of Ikorodu Oga Development Association. He said the Association’s main goal is to make the Oga Day rank with days like Ojude Oba Day in Ijebu, Ogun State.

Otunba Abiru in his speech during the press conference used to announce activities for the 1-week long event stated that the Ikorodu-Oga Day must become a household name in every community in the division, State and all round Nigeria to the world.

Abiru who recently took over the leadership of the Association however, reiterated that the group’s objective is not only to organise the Oga Day celebration, but to carry out a total re-packaging and rebranding of Ikorodu to suit recent developments in Lagos State and the world.

He disclosed that among reasons for staging the yearly event was to keep the heritage and traditions in line so as to avoid it been going into extinction. He further noted that Ikorodu town will forever be proud to showcase it’s cultural heritage to the world just as it also advances it to meet with international standard.

In her address, the Public Relations Officer of the Association, Hon Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba disclosed that this year’s celebration which is themed “Cultural Rebirth As A Veritable Tool For Youth Empowerment“, is aimed at grooming the youth so that they can harness their energy positively so as to uplift the face of the Division.

Princess Folashade, who is also the Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Central Local Government Area promised that this year’s celebration will be all inclusive as all the 6 LGAs/LCDAs have been penned down to participate in the activities unlike in the past where they were not involved.

She used the moment to call on all Ikorodu indigenes both home and abroad to keep in mind the date of the celebration and make sure they also come along with at least a friend who has never been to the town.

The 26th edition of the Ikorodu-Oga Day Celebration will kick off on November 11th through to 18th, 2017.
