President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced that all 24 schoolgirls abducted from a government boarding school in Maga, Kebbi State, Nigeria, have been successfully rescued.
The October 17 incident involved armed assailants who stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School and abducted the students, initially reported as 25 in number.
According to the state governor’s aide and federal sources, all the girls are now safe and have been accounted for.
President Tinubu said, “I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. Now, we must put, as a matter of urgency, more boots on the ground in the vulnerable areas to avert further incidents of kidnapping.”
While no details have been released regarding the rescue operation or the location of the captors, the development brings hope in a year marked by a surge in mass abductions of schoolchildren in Nigeria’s northern region.
