Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, recently met with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed behind closed doors.
While the purpose of the visit remains unclear, speculation suggests it may be connected to the 2027 general elections.
Obi’s meeting with Governor Mohammed, who chairs the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, has sparked interest in potential alliances ahead of the upcoming elections.
This development comes after Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna State governor, defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), reportedly to build an opposition coalition.
The 2023 presidential election saw Obi come in third, with 6,101,533 votes, behind Bola Tinubu (8,794,726 votes) and Atiku Abubakar (6,984,520 votes).
As the 2027 elections approach, Obi’s meeting with Governor Mohammed has fueled speculation about potential alliances and coalitions.
