The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that the 2025 local government elections will include all 20 Local Government Councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
This announcement comes amid rising speculation and debates about the role of the LCDAs in governance and their eligibility for electoral participation.
The APC, through its state chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, emphasized that the LCDAs have remained integral to grassroots development in Lagos since their creation, dispelling doubts about their relevance.
However, Ojelabi emphasized the undeniable impact of the LCDAs, citing various infrastructural projects, educational advancements, healthcare services, and collaborative efforts with the state government on security and environmental management.
In his statement, Ojelabi also appealed to party members and Lagosians to maintain peace and unity as the state prepares for the elections. He stressed the importance of avoiding unnecessary political tensions and focusing on sustaining Lagos’ position as a leader in governance and development.
“We hope this release will put paid to further speculations as regards the local government elections in order not to unnecessarily heat up the polity,” he said.
The 2025 local government elections are expected to be a significant event in Lagos State’s political calendar, with the APC emphasizing the crucial role of grassroots governance through both the Local Government Councils and LCDAs.
This announcement aims to reassure stakeholders and silence doubts about the APC’s stance on the LCDAs, reaffirming their place in the state’s governance structure and electoral process.
