2018 World Peace Day: “Peace is not Negotialbe” – Council Boss
As the world celebrate world peace day with the theme “The Right to Peace: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70”, calls for peace has risen from different corners of the world.
The Executive Chairman of Alimosho, Hon. Jelili Sulaimon joined others to call for peaceful coexistence. He said “peace is not negotiable, it is our collective responsiblity to maintain peace in our community”
“It is time we started preaching and acting peacefully. Let the mimbar and alter be use as a peace preaching center. Let our Pastors and Imams in the community make peace the center of their preaching. The Nigeria Inter-religious Council is a body set up to maintain peace amoung our religious leaders”.
As the 2019 election is approaching, the chairman advised the youth not to allow anyone to use them for violence. “Nothing good comes out of violence, it is only through peace that development and progress can be achieved.”
The chairman equally called on religious leaders to pray for our country “we need prayer for peace in the North and East, we need prayer for continuous peace in the south”
It is pertinent for us learn from the non violence approach of Mahtmah Ghandi and Martin Luther King. Let us learn from their non violence philosophy.
Hon. Jelili aversed that “peace starts from the self to the family then the society. We must shun home violence, work violence, community violence and all forms of violence that exist. Let us embrace peace and take it as our guiding principle”
