By One Margaret Adiya Ikumu, 19, from Oni Local Government Arear, Benue, has been arrested after faking her own death, Blackboxnigeria gathered.
A petition signed by one Tony Iji, on behalf of the family members of the suspect, revealed that their attention was drawn to a post on Facebook, stating that the said Margaret died few days ago and was buried by her two friends; Marvelous Mary and Nneka Buddy.
Family members were able to establish contact with the said friends, while confirming the death of Margaret, they added that the suspect instructed them not to reveal anything about her death to family members, and also bury her secretly.
To make believe the death of Margaret, a picture of a casket was sent to confirm her burial was sent to a family member via WhatsApp.
While the suspects phone was switched off, the family members contacted her boyfriend, who also corroborated the claim that she was dead.
However, the suspect who was employed as a house maid in Ajah area of Lagos, was quickly taken to the Ajah Police Station, after her employer saw stories of her purported death.
While confessing to the crime, Margaret admitted to have created a Facebook account to fake her own death, with the intent of keeping her family members away from her.
The suspect explained that her decision to fake her death was propelled by her mothers’ constant demand for funds, as well as her uncles.
Adding that her family members have been unable to sponsor her education since the death of her father.
Margaret also admitted to using the unconsented photograph of her employer’s daughter, Dr Nimechi Ugorji, on the Facebook account created.
