19 students bag six-year jail term for cultism

A High Court sitting in the Borno State capital, Maiduguri, has sentenced 19 tertiary institution students to six years imprisonment each for cultism.

According to Daily Nigerian, Justice Umar Fadawu, the presiding judge, on Wednesday, stated that there was enough evidence proving that the students committed the offence of conspiring and management/membership of an unlawful society.

It was learnt that the suspects were arrested by the police in September 2019 in an hotel in Maiduguri for being members of an unlawful society, Neo Black movement a.k.a Black Axe.

After considering the pleas from some of the convicts, the judge sentenced them to six years each on each of the two counts without an option of a fine. He also stated that the prison terms shall begin concurrently from Wednesday.
