A 17 year old student from Yobe State, has made history by winning the top prize at the 2025 TeenEagle English Language Skills Competition, held in London, United Kingdom.

Nafisat Abdullah Aminu, a student of Nigeria Tulip International College (NTIC) in Yobe, emerged as the overall winner of the prestigious competition, which drew over 20,000 participants from 69 countries.

Nafisat’s victory marks the first time a Nigerian girl has won the global contest, making it a historic achievement not just for Yobe State but for the entire country.

Her success is a reflection of her hard work and the growing impact of education reforms in Yobe State under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Nafisat’s father, Malam Hassan Salihu, expressed his pride and gratitude, crediting his daughter’s global triumph to discipline, dedication, and the supportive educational environment created by the Buni administration.
“Our daughter’s success would not have been possible without the visionary investment in education by Governor Mai Mala Buni,” he said. “His efforts have transformed schools in Yobe and given students the chance to compete globally.”

Nafisat’s performance, which surpassed that of students from native English speaking countries, is seen as a proud moment for Nigeria and a shining example of what is possible with strong educational support and individual dedication.

Her achievement is a testament to the potential of Nigerian students and the impact of effective education policies.
