Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 17 year old boy for allegedly plucking out the eyes of his seven year old sister in what authorities describe as an attempted money ritual.
The incident occurred on October 17, 2025, at Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo (Kubi Ward) in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement from the Bauchi State Police Command, the suspect lured his younger sister into a nearby bush, where he violently removed both of her eyes. The victim, identified as Rukayya Muhammad, was rescued by community members and rushed to a hospital, where doctors confirmed she had permanently lost her sight.
Police Public Relations Officer Superintendent Ahmed Wakil said the teenager confessed to the act, claiming he was influenced by unknown persons who allegedly promised him wealth if he could provide human eyes for a ritual.
Authorities also confirmed the arrest of five other suspects believed to be connected to the incident. They were identified as Mohammed Rabiu (19), Saleh Ibrahim (20), Nasiru Muhammad, Hassan Garba, and Garba Dahiru (43) all residents of the same community.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution. He also warned residents to desist from harmful and superstitious practices that endanger lives.
Medical personnel at the hospital described the victim’s condition as stable but confirmed that she has permanently lost her sight as a result of the injuries.
Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served and that all those found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
