Speaking about the essence of the competition in a conversation with BlackBox Nigeria, the sponsor and Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan said he is fulfilled at the height of sportsmanship displayed by the respective teams while thanking the Ikorodu Football community for sustaining the competition.

“As you must have noticed, this is the 12 edition of the competition deliberately designed to address the issue of grassroots sports development in Ikorodu and its environs. The teams were all wonderful in their show of sportsmanship and I thank the FA for sustaining the yearly organization of the competition,” he said.

Also played on the same pitch was the
Chief Imam of Ikorodu U-17 Cup which saw Aplace FC, Ayomiposi FC, and Omo Majemu FC winning the first, second, and third positions respectively.

Aplace FC walloped Ayomiposi FC 5 goals to zero to take the first position with Waris Lawal scoring 2 goals while Pascal Osuji, Sefiu Boluwatife, and Pascal Osuji consolidated the victory with 1 goal each.

Showing his satisfaction with the competition, Chief Imam of Ikorodu, Sheikh Seifudeen Olowo-Oribi, said the competition ought to have been played last year but was affected by the global pandemic.

“I am happy we have been able to conclude the competition which should have been held last year but for the global pandemic. I know if we can organize more competitions of this nature, we could gradually start to address the issues of youth restiveness that are prevalent in society today.

We need to take a special interest in molding our young ones  because a community that fails to train her youth is already a failed community, “ he averred.
