Nollywood comic actor Bamidele Tope Saint, popularly known as Okemesi, has died after falling into a coma, his colleagues have confirmed.

The development has shocked fans and members of the entertainment community, many of whom had been following his recent health struggles.

Okemesi was pronounced dead at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, at a private hospital where he had been receiving treatment.

The announcement was made in a video shared on social media by fellow actor Jeff Owolewa, also known as Tony Montana, who said Okemesi’s body has since been taken to the morgue.

According to his colleague, Okemesi’s health deteriorated after he fell into a coma following complications linked to medication previously administered during treatment. Efforts to admit him into several hospitals were initially unsuccessful due to lack of bed space, before he was eventually readmitted to the private facility where he had been treated earlier.

In the days leading up to his death, Okemesi had been struggling with his health and had appealed to the public for financial help to cover medical costs. Supporters had rallied around him, raising funds and helping him secure a new apartment just days before his condition worsened.

Okemesi was best known for his comic roles in Yoruba-language films and online skits, where his humour and performances won him a loyal fan base across Nigeria and beyond.

His style often blended English and local dialects, making his content relatable and widely enjoyed within the entertainment community.

Fans, colleagues and members of the public have taken to social media to mourn his passing, reflecting on his contributions to the Nigerian film industry and offering condolences to his family.

His funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated by his family and colleagues in the coming days.
