The Lagos operations of Africa Independent Television (AIT), one of Nigeria’s pioneering private broadcast stations, have been shut down following crippling financial and operational challenges, according to PorscheClassy report.
Insiders revealed that the management of Daar Communications Plc, owners of AIT, RayPower FM, and Faaji FM, ordered the closure after the station could no longer sustain operations due to rising maintenance costs and irregular staff payments.
While AIT’s Lagos office has ceased operations, RayPower FM and Faaji FM both under the same ownership are reportedly still broadcasting.
The development marks a significant blow to AIT, which has for decades maintained one of the most active television bureaus in Lagos, serving as a major hub for news production and national programming.
As of press time, Daar Communications Plc had yet to issue an official statement regarding the shutdown.
