It was a pitiable scene for Danladi Satatima when he found a 12-year-old boy eating own faeces in an apartment he intend to buy.
The incident which happened in Kano saw the boy confined in a room and starved by his mother, Maryam Dauda.
According to Daily Trust, Satatima was interested in buying the apartment but had to assess its condition. While doing so, he found the unidentified boy inside one the rooms, where he was chained and subjected to eat his own faeces.
“As I entered the house alongside the landlord, I saw a boy chained inside a room eating his faeces,” he said.
Satatima narrated how he sought the assistance of neighbors to rescue the boy, but they were unyielding. Thereafter, he attempted to reach out to the ward head, but it proved abortive before he finally reported the case at the police station.
“So I went to see the ward head but I could not see him as he was not around at that moment. We waited for an hour or so but he did not appear. I called him on phone but his line did not go through. So I decided to report the case to Dorayi Police Station and they promptly responded,” he narrated.
Eventually, the tip-off from Satatima led to the arrest of Maryam Dauda, the mother of the boy. She has been placed in custody, as confirmed by Kano State Police Command’s Spokesperson, DCP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, and will be arraigned at the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
According to the police report, the victim was rescued and rushed to Murtala Muhammad hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, Dauda blamed her action on poverty. She expressed how she has been helpless ever since she had the boy. She said the boy, like his other two late brothers, has suffered from mental illness all his life.
