Rep. Babajimi Benson, Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, has partnered with the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) to provide a free six-week intensive skill acquisition training for 57 youths.
The training, which commenced on April 8, 2024, and ended on May 15, 2024, at the NAFRC Centre in Oshodi, Lagos, aimed to equip the beneficiaries with various entrepreneurship skills, including photography, cosmetics/soap making, bakery and confectionary, ICT, barbing, hairdressing, leather works, and agriculture.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Rep. Babajimi Benson, represented by Mr. Aregbesola Rasheed, commended NAFRC for its consistent support and partnership in empowering the youth. He emphasized the importance of the civilian-military relationship and praised the centre for its commitment to nation-building.
“This empowerment training has enabled the civil society to see military as not just a disciplined noble profession, but also as mutual partner in nation-building. This civilian-military relationship we have forged over the years is one we hold in high esteem at iCARE Foundation.
“This is because the skill acquisition platform created by NAFRC has not only lifted thousands of beneficiaries out of poverty bracket but has also created a chain of multiplier effect on the social-economic well being of Ikorodu federal constituency and other beneficiaries here.
“And as you are stepping out now, imbibe the military disciples learnt in your future personal and business endeavour. This will no doubt grow our local and national economy” he said.
The Director of Training, Brigadier-General I.O Olatunji, congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to put their newfound skills to good use. Air Vice Marshall AH Amesinlola, represented by E.A Anaryu, encouraged the participants to be good ambassadors and make a positive impact in their communities.
“NAFRC in partnership with iCARE Foundation has opened door for you to be self-made and useful for nation-building. Go out there and be good ambassadors of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, and NAFRC out there. Go and make us proud.”
This partnership marks the fourth time Rep. Baba’Jimi Benson has collaborated with NAFRC, demonstrating his commitment to empowering the youth and promoting nation-building. The programme has lifted thousands of beneficiaries out of poverty and created a multiplier effect on the social-economic well-being of the community.
The beneficiaries showcased their products and services at the graduation ceremony, which included a mini-exhibition of their works. The event was attended by dignitaries, including military personnel, government officials, and community leaders.
