11 Days After, Police Continues To Detain Journalist, Tim Elombah
After his arrest on New Year’s day, the Nigeria Police Force has continued to hold on to the Editor of Elmobah.com, Mr Tim Elombah.
The Police has continued to hold on to the journalist despite requests by several civil organisations, both international and local, for his release.
An Area Court Judge had earlier remanded Mr Elombah in Police custody. But after the detention order expired on Monday, January 8th, he is yet to be released, hence illegal detention by the Police.
It will be recalled that Tim Elombah was on New Year day arrested along with his brothers in the early hours by operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, who had invaded their family house in Nnewi, Anambra State.
While the Publisher of Elombah.com, Mr Daniel Elombah was granted bail along with his other brothers, the Editor, Tim remained in the detention of the Police, on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris mni.
It was gathered that the Elombah brothers were arrested on an opinion article published on the website, which was perceived to be against the IGP. The article was titled “IGP Ibrahim Idris’s Unending Baggage of Controversies“. It was reported that the IGP found the article offensive and ordered the arrest of the Elombah brothers.
