Today marks the 35th birthday of Mavin boss, Don Jazzy and BlackBox Nigeria is delivering this 10 quick facts about the iconic entertainer…
1. He was born Michael Ajereh Collins in Umuahia the Abia state capital on November 26, 1982.
2. He attended Federal Government College, Ijaniki in Lagos and obtained his university degree at Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma.
3. In year 2000, Don Jazzy left Lagos for London for the purpose of drumming for a neighborhood white garment church.
4. In London, Don Jazzy worked as a security guard at McDonald’s and drummed for juju singer, Mr Solek.
5. He was later introduced to Funke Akindele’s husband, JJC who groomed his production skills.
6. In 2004, Don Jazzy returned to Nigeria with new partner D’banj to promote their new record. They later founded Mo’Hits and churned out great songs together while also bringing on others.
7. In 2012, Don Jazzy fell apart with his partner, D’banj which led to the death of Mo’Hits and the birth of Supreme Mavin Dynasty.
8. Mavin saw Don Jazzy’s regular associate, Wande Coal, Dr Sid and his brother, D’Prince as first acts while K-Switch moved on with his big brother, D’banj. Don Jazzy will however hit a big one when he secured the then returnee Tiwa Savage who remains the biggest act on the label till date.
9. Asides music, Don Baba Jay has also been reported to have invested in some other ventures while he has also represented several top labels as an ambassador. These include; MTN, Samsung, Johnnie Walker amongst others.
10. He has a non-ending crush on 8-time Grammy awards winner, Rihanna but has also been caught flirting online with Africa’s top blogger, Linda Ikeji.
