10 outstanding LASPOTECH alumni who have made Nigeria proud

The list of notable individuals who graduated from the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) is extensive. These individuals have excelled in a variety of fields while also pushing positive change in their respective spaces.

Blackbox Nigeria has put together 10 outstanding LASPOTECH alumni who have made Nigeria proud.

1. Omosalewa Adenike Babalola

She is a Biochemistry graduate of the polytechnic who etched her name in history books as the first student to graduate with the maximum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.0/4.0 in the 2014/2015 session, since the establishment of the institution in 1977. Babalola is now a molecular scientist, resourceful biochemist and nutritionist.

2. Yetunde Onanuga

Another alumnus of the polytechnic, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga was born on September 11, 1960. She was the Director of Finance and Administration in the Lagos State Ministry of Environment when then Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun invited her to be his deputy in 2015.

She also supervised the Ministry of Rural Development where she used her dexterity to contribute to the greatness of the state, before finally leaving office in 2019.

3. Adekunle Kosoko

Singer and songwriter, professionally known as Adekunle Gold, obtained a Higher National Diploma certification in Arts and Style from Lagos State Polytechnic.

Kosoko would go on to build an enviable career in the Nigerian music industry, with many hit tracks and several awards to his credit.

4. Funmilayo Babington Ashaye

Born in May 1948, she is the Managing Director of Risk Analyst Insurance Brokers Limited. She was also the former managing director of Cornerstone Insurance PLC and defunct NICON insurance PLC, two leading insurance companies in the Nigeria stock exchange.

In 2017, Ashaye became the 48th President and Chairman of Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) where she bequeathed a world class electronic library as part of her achievement in office.

5. Alice Iyabo Ojo

The leading actress is a graduate of Estate Management from the polytechnic. Ojo has scripted and starred in a number of films, and has produced over 14 of her own.

Aside being an actress, she also has diverse sources of income such as catering, spa, make-up studio, event planning, among others.

6. Kunle Afolayan

The celebrated director and filmmaker is another alumnus of the Lagos State Polytechnic. Though he began his career as an actor, Afolayan has produced several award-winning movies with his most recent being ‘Swallow’, a Netflix Original.

7. Olabisi Onasanya

He is a former group managing director and CEO of First Bank Nigeria limited. Onasanya was the CEO of First pension custodian, a chartered accountant with pioneering initiatives in Nigeria’s nascent pension custody industry that helped define best industry practices.

He rose from the position of a senior manager to executive director, the position he held until his retirement in December 2015. He is currently the CEO of his real estate business, the Address Homes LTD.

8. Tunji Afolayan

He is a production designer and cinematographer. In 2018, he bagged the Best Art Director award of Africa Movie Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

9. Yinka Mursiq Durosinmi

He bagged his National Diploma and Higher National Diploma certification in Business Administration from the Polytechnic. Durosinmi is a foremost politician and a former Chairman of Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State.

10. Ayo Gbeleyi

He is an award-winning chartered accountant, a fellow of both the institute of Chartered Accounts in Nigeria (ICAN), Chartered Institute of Account in Nigeria (CIAN) with broad skills in public policy making, public finance management, Public-Private partnerships.

Gbeleyi is the former Honourable Commissioner of Finance in Lagos State for the oversight of the office of Public-Private. He doubled as the special adviser to the Governor and the Director General of the Lagos State office of Public-Private partnerships.

    A review of this is necessary. Rotimi Edu should be in the list if it was done a month ago as I read.
