Yemi Fawaz: Nigeria’s first supermodel dies of cancer 

Nigeria’s first internationally recognised Supermodel, Yemi Fawaz is dead. She died in the United States at the age of 64. She reportedly died of complications arising from cancer. 

Yemi Fawaz is remembered as Nigeria’s pioneer professional model who also promoted the training of other Nigerian ladies to become models.

Born to a Nigerian mother and Lebanese father, Yemi Fawaz became famous in the 70s for her ravishing beauty and talent. She later went on to establish the first modelling school in Nigeria and West Africa. She was also a fashion enthusiast and designer. 

She however relocated to the US in 1997, six years after she became a born  again Christian. She was also a church deaconess until her death. 

Confirming her death, late Yemi Fawaz’ 33-year-old daughter, Magdalene Oluwayosin took to Facebook to announce the passing away of the former supermodel. 

‘’It is with great sadness that I am announcing the passing of my Mother Deaconess Yemi Fawaz. We thank God for her well lived life and for her strong faith in the Lord Almighty,”

‘’Her home going arrangements will be announced soon. I ask that you keep our family in your prayers and I am grateful that she was able to touch you all in so many ways,’’ 

Her younger sister, Susan Fawaz also shared her own grief on Facebook when she posted.

“My darling beloved sister has gone to rest with the lord, l miss you but I know God loves you best, sleep on my mummy.”
