Today is the day many have been waiting for as regards who gets what in the National Assembly. With front runners, Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila getting the nods of the ruling All Progressives Congress for Senate President and Speaker respectively, everything seemed like a roller coaster ride for the duo, until now.

APC Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole had earlier revealed that the ruling party has resolved to hand over the leadership of NASS to Lawan and Gbajabiamila while also announcing that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Hon. Ahmed Wase have been endorsed as Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker respectively.

“We have all agreed as a caucus to endorse senator Lawan for Senate President and Senator Omo-Agege as the Deputy Senate President.

“We have also agreed to endorse Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Wase as deputy speaker. These four are the APC nominees for the respective positions. The governors and members-elect were unanimous in adopting this position,” Oshiomhole said.

BlackBox Nigeria however gathered that the opposition PDP has decided to go the opposite direction by endorsing Ali Ndume and Umar Bago for Senate President and Speaker.

The former ruling party last night held a meeting between its National Working Committee led by the National Chairman of the Party, Prince Uche Secondus and Lawmakers-Elect under the party.

The party instructed the lawmakers to go all out and vote for the duo of Ndume and Bago. BlackBox Nigeria also learnt that the party night has endorsed former Abi State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu for the post of Deputy Senate President.

Speaking with newsmen, PDP Chairman Uche Secondus was quoted to have said, “As the opposition political party, we must be seen to play responsible opposition role.Yes, none of the two presiding officers we are rooting for belong to the PDP, but we know that as a critical member of the National Assembly, we must have a say in the election of its leaders. This is the reason why we are backing both Ndume and Bago.”
