HOW A SINGLE NEWS REPORT CHANGED THE LIFE OF A WIDOW IN AKWA, ANAMBRA

Isioma Mordi after her sudden change of fate

For Damilare Okunola, a reporter with Legit.NG, it was just another day at work, hunting the streets of Akwa in Anambra  in quest for the next available news, but for the 28 year old widow, Isioma Mordi, it was a date with destiny as the interview she had with the reporter changed her life story for good.

The life transforming story of the widow was recounted recently by the reporter on his Facebook page.

Recalling how the whole scenario panned out on the eve of the former presidential election date which was on Friday February 15th, the broadcaster revealed that having just concluded an interview session on a  particular street, Isioma Mordi who sells roasted plantain known as ‘boli’ accosted him, insisting she was interviewed because she had a message for Buhari.

Damilare who lukewarmly attended to her never knew that the interview could go viral how much more change the widow’s fate for the better as a Malaysian philanthropist indicated interest in offering financial aid to the widow and the next thing that followed was one donation after the other which had risen to a tune of $150, 000 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollar) as revealed by the Legit.NG reporter.

BlackBox Nigeria brings you below the full narration of this typical representation of grass to grace as narrated by Damilare Okunola on his Facebook page.

On Friday, 15 February, while @emmanuel_osodi and I were looking for what was not missing in Awka, Anambra State (where we had gone to cover the postponed presidential election), after we had just concluded our vox pop, this lady selling boli and beans by the roadside asked us to interview her because she had a message for President Buhari.

Unku cameraman had already found his way to under bridge but I stopped by to talk to her and asked if she was willing to really talk to the President.

She said: “Yes na, if we have to vote for them, we need to tell them what we need, isn’t it?” So I called Osodi to come back, “make we hear Wetin she wan talk na.”

After the video was published, two people wanted to genuinely help and they reached out via our official Facebook page.

In about 48hours… an anonymous man from Malaysia who’s already even doing more than I can say now, sent 150grand for Isioma and we called her to get her gift on Monday morning.

Fortunately for her, Isioma was already in Asaba, Delta State, where we had moved to for another interview when we called her.

The result of the giving is the video some of you may have watched already. Isioma is a 28-year-old widow with a child.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS MOVED by someone’s reaction since we started this street gist. If she had her way, she’d probably have kissed Me (don’t ask if I’d have accepted it); she was SO GRATEFUL!

Since yesterday when we posted her video, many more people have reached out to her and she’s being blessed daily.
