Relief across Lagos as Governor Sanwo-Olu tackles abandoned Badagry express road

The Governor assures Lagosians that the Mazamaza to Okokomaiko stretch of the road will be completed by December this year

Lagosians especially those who live and transact business around the Western Senatorial district can now heave a sigh of relieve as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has moved to find a solution to the Badagry expressway which has been abandoned to the endangerment of lives and properties for several years.

Visiting the dilapidated road alongside his deputy, Femi Hamzat, Governor Sanwo-Olu assessed the situation himself in company of some construction engineers.

Sanwo-Olu finally gave an assurance that the 10-lane expansion will be completed from Maza-Maza axis of the road to Okokomaiko by December this year.

The governor further assured that contractors will immediately move to site to ensure the target is met.

“In this month of June, contractors will be moving back to site. Work will commence on this road in this month. Work will start this week because it has been neglected for almost four years. We have seen a lot of road failures already and we need to bring respite to our people on this corridor,” Sanwo-Olu disclosed.

He said further, “our commitment to our people is that within this month, our contractors will be moving back to site. We are expecting that if we are able to get the financing, it is something we are supposed to complete before the end of the year. There is another one from Okokomaiko to Agbara, then from Agbara to the border town of Badagry. We are working with the Federal Government on that site to Seme Border.”

The Lagos-Badagry express road has been under construction for over a decade. The expansion started during the era of Governor Babatunde Fashola but was abandoned along the way as a result of paucity of funds.
