Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has emerged the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate.

The senator who represents Delta Central defeated the outgoing deputy Senate-President Ike Ekweremadu to emerge winner in what will be the first time the progressive wing will be leading the upper chambers.

Omo-Agege who is a member of the ruling APC polled 68 votes to Ekweremadu’s 37 to emerge victorious. Ekweremadu is returning to the Senate for his 5th term. He is of the PDP. 

Earlier on, Senator Ahmed Lawan from Yobe North defeated Ali Ndume of Borno to emerge the Senate President.
