Ojukwu Told Me Biafra Is Needless -President Buhari claims

Against the backdrop of recent agitations for a Sovereign State of Biafra, President Muhammadu Buhari in a live broadcast to the nation this morning, said late Emeka Ojukwu told him while having a lengthy discussion that Biafra is needless.

He noted that in the course of his stay in the United Kingdom and monitoring events at home, he became distressed to notice that some of the comments, especially in the social media have crossed national red lines by daring to question the collective existence of Nigeria.

President Buhari revealed that in 2003 after joining partisan politics, he had a lengthy discussion with former Biafra Warlord in the 1967-1970 Nigeria Civil War and later Presidential Aspirant under All Progressives Grand Alliance  (APGA),  late Chief Emeka Ojukwu and they both agreed that Nigeria must remain one and united.

“In 2003 after I joined partisan politics, the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu came and stayed as my guest in my hometown Daura. Over two days we discussed in great depth till late into the night and analyzed the problems of Nigeria. We both came to the conclusion that the country must remain one and united.

Nigeria’s unity is settled and not negotiable. We shall not allow irresponsible elements to start trouble and when things get bad they run away and saddle others with the responsibility of bringing back order, if necessary with their blood, “ Buhari emphasized in the broadcast.

He went further to state that every Nigerian has the right to live and pursue his business anywhere in Nigeria without let or hindrance.

“This is not to deny that there are legitimate concerns. Every group has a grievance. But the beauty and attraction of a federation are that it allows different groups to air their grievances and work out a model of co-existence.”

He thus directed any group with grievances to approach the National Assembly and the National Council of State which are the legitimate and appropriate bodies for national discourse.
