Multi-billion Naira Ibom hospital shuts down after two years

Governor Emmanuel Udom and his predecessor, Goodwill Akpabio

Two years after opening for operation, the multi-billion Naira specialist hospital built by the administration of former governor Godswill Akpabio has shut down.
The Ibom Specialist Hospital, Uyo was shut down after workers downed tools due to a disagreement with the current administration.
BlackBox Nigeria learns that world class hospital had to shut down last month because most of the specialist who are “foreigners from India” terminated their contract with the state government and withdrew from the facility. The foreign managers of the hospital, Cardiocare Ltd had for some time now been having a running battle with the state government over funding and management of the hospital.
The Akwa-Ibom commissioner for health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong who confirmed the closure of the Ibom Specialist Hospital has further accused Cardiocare Ltd of poor management amongst other things.
