Lekki And Ikoyi Toll Gate Tariff Hike, Lagos State Government Reacts

The Lagos State Government has announced the annulment of the proposed hike in the fare paid at the Lekki and Ikoyi Link bridge, as initially proposed by Lekki Concession Company.

It will be recalled that the LCC on Friday published new rates for the two toll gates it currently manages on the Island area of the State.

The State Government in its reaction in a letter signed by Mr Steve Ayorinde, Information and Strategy Commissioner, the concession company has been directed to halt the proposed tariff hike, and advised to engage with stakeholders.

The attention of Lagos State Government has been drawn to the announcement of a proposed tariff hike on Lekki-Epe Expressway and Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge by the Lekki Concession Company (LCC).

The Lagos State government hereby informs the general public that the said tariff hike has now been put on hold as the necessary consultations with stakeholders are yet to be concluded,” he said.

The statement disclosed that the hike will not be effected on November 8th as initially announced as he said the State Government under the leadership of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode understands the need for periodic reviews of tariffs and other levies concerning road infrastructure.

While government recognises the need for periodic review of tariffs and any other levies appertaining to road infrastructure maintenance in the state, the public and critical stakeholders as the ultimate beneficiaries of such facilities must always be carried along at all times.

Therefore, the proposed tarrif hike cannot be effected at this period in the interest of the public, while further consultations continue.

He revealed that all parties of the Private Public Partnership (PPP) will meet for critical reasoning in the interest of the public, who are the ultimate beneficiaries of the project.
