LASPOTECH STRIKE: NASU PROMISES NOT TO DISRUPT ONGOING EXAMS
BlackBox Nigeria reports that in order to douse ongoing tensions as regards the fate of students writing their first semester exam in the 2018/2019 Academic session, Striking Non-Academic Staff Union has promised not to disrupt the ongoing First Semester examinations.
In a statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the Students’ Union Government, Osaye John Taiwo on Tuesday, the embattled staff union was said to have made this stance known through a media release to the News Agency of Nigeria and The Punch Newspaper on Monday.
The union however posited that the examinations will not be disrupted but basic services within its purview such as Power generation, water and medical services will not be allowed to function.
Speaking with newsmen yesterday, Mr Abiodun Awoyemi, Chairman, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, LASPOTECH chapter, said “We have ensured that our members are not at work to provide essential services and also ensure that any services under our purview provided by some hired workers were disconnected.”
“We have been moving round the campus to ensure full compliance and services, just like the generator that we met switched on have been put off,” He said

But the management through the deputy registrar, Public Relations Unit, Mr Olanrewaju Kuye has doused the fears of students by promising to make available alternative solutions to the withdrawn services by the staff union.
Kuye was however quoted as saying “Since the lecturers are not on strike and have taught the students for more than 13 weeks now, and are also ready to conduct the examination, what is wrong with that?”
The school management braved the odds to commence examinations on Monday amidst power outage and huge security presence.
But the Students Union Government is of the opinion that the students will receive the brunt of the rancor between the management and the Non-Academic Staff Union if the examinations do not go on as rescheduled. They urge students to be patient and calm in the face of this challenge.
Recall that BlackBox Nigeria had reported that the Non-Academic Staff Union of the institution embarked on this indefinite strike about two months ago.
