Involve Africa conveys #NotTooYoungToRun Youth Policy Dialogue in Lagos

Youths have gathered in Lagos to discuss the modalties in ensuring that the #NotTooYoungToRun campaign becomes a success in reality

Involve Africa one of Nigeria’s leading social enterprise with focus on governance process and social progress of Africa and how young people can drive these thematic recently conveyed a youth policy dialogue in Lagos. The one day event was hosted in partnership with the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Youth,Sports and Social Development.

The dialogue catalogued both state actors from the Parliament and Local Government and non state actors from Civil Society Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, the media and other youth led groups to develop a framework for Youth and Governance with emphasis on Access,Capacity and Engagement.

The Chairman Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Youth, Sports and Social Development , Honourable Adedamola Kasunmu was in attendance with others state actors. Hon. Kasunmu, a seasoned educationist and youth advocate urged young people to get involved by participating in electoral process fròm the grassroots. He further expressed that women should endeavor to leave the shadows and background to make their voice heard.

The Founder and Executive Director of Involve Africa, Ibrahim Owolabi in his address disclosed that the dialogue is a timely intervention as “we lobby the state Assembly to support the #NotTooYoungToRun Bill and its mandates to mainstream independent candidacy and reduce the age requirements to contest for elective positions in Nigeria.” He further revealed that young people must begin to formulate policies that would make the bill a positive one when passed into law.

The event also had has guest speaker; Dayo Isreal from Glheed Foundation and an aspirant in the just concluded Lagos council election, Mr. Ahmed Ojikutu of CAPDAN and Lagos State’s Youngest Councillor, Hon.Ayotunde Adenuga.
