Ikorodu Is Not All About Criminality (A Rejoinder)

Having read in the Editorial of Punch Newspaper on 31st January, 2017 and the constructive response of Mr Sulaimon Mojeed-Sanni on 3rd February, 2017 through an online Media Platform – Black Box Nigeria, on the topic: Ikorodu and Criminality in Lagos state, it is pertinent to add a voice to the discuss.

Re: Ikorodu and Criminality in Lagos By Sulaimon Mojeed-Sanni

I boldly say that, since the creation of Ikorodu town and other towns that make up the Division, the division had and is still experiencing unparalleled development and modernity. Ikorodu Division being one of the Divisions that forms IBILE (geopolitical zones) to make up Lagos state has the population of over two million residents who have peacefully cohabited until recently.

The Editorial position of The Punch Newspaper could be as a result of recent occurrences in the Division, but that is not enough to tag my hometown a home of Criminality. Ikorodu has been and still remain a peaceful home for indigenes and non-indigenes.

Perhaps, it’s high time, the State Government fulfil one of her primary duty; provide security within her surrounding territory. Considering the massive support and votes recorded from Ikorodu Division during the General Election in 2015.

I urge the State Government to critically look into the security of lives and properties of Ikorodu residents, it is believe that doing the needful by government will not only bring peace to Ikorodu Division, but a record fulfillment to the State Government for bringing sanity under the Administration of Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.

Residents and Indigenes of Ikorodu deserve the very best from the State Government. Our forefathers contributed to the founding of Lagos state in 1967 and we still contribute to the daily socioeconomic wellbeing of the state.

The Punch Newspaper, I am Aderoju Ladega, a typical Ikorodu person and there are the likes of, Sulaimon Mojeed-Sanni, Hamzat Jimoh, Wasiu Shobona, Olalekan Biliamin, Adelabu Kunle, Lamina Azeez, Adewale Disu and lots to be listed who are daily projecting the potentials of the town without indulging in criminality. We are made in Ikorodu and always proud. We await the Government’s intervention sooner than ever. Ikorodu deserves the best!
