Muslims in the Republic of Guinea were yesterday asked to pray for Nigeria’s ailing President Muhammadu Buhari who has not been seen in public since May.

Guinean President, Alpha Conde made the call on Friday while declaring the day one for prayers for the Nigerian leader. Guinea is a predominantly Islamic nation as over 85% of the population are Muslims which means prayers were said for Buhari across the country in what was declared ‘a day of prayers for Buhari’.

But for his deteriorating health, President Buhari was billed to visit Guinea in March this year but he couldn’t make the trip as he was away in London seeking medical attention. Alpha Conde who is also the Chairman of the African Union is a ally of President Buhari who has barely function as President since January.

President Buhari has been away since the first week of May which has left the country in uncertainty. While many have continued to give kudos to acting President Yemi Osinbajo, many others are still of the opinion that the nation is not really making progression as a result of the President’s absence.
