Girl Who Got Free UTME Form Secures Full Scholarship From Ohun Ikorodu Education Support Initiative

Jimoh Hamzat aka Ohun Ikorodu

For a young girl of Ikorodu Origin being thankful for small mercies would forever remain a guiding principle of Life. The young girl (name withheld) according to an undergraduate Law Student of Lagos State University, Jimoh Hamzat, popularly known as Ohun Ikorodu, had only come to thank him for helping her with 2018/2019 UTME form but met with yet another favour.

In a post narrated on his Facebook wall, Jimoh Hamzat said the young girl who he does not know had benefited from the free UTME form he facilitated through the Ohun Ikorodu Education Support Initiative earlier in the year. The lady had passed with a 240 score and had come for the Indigeneship Verification Screening in Lasu when she decided to check on her benefactor alongside her mother.

LITTLE FOR HUMANITY

Earlier this week, I had planned to just spend a brief time in school and rush to other things. Man like me must survive after all.

Stepping out of the faculty, I walked into the kneeling legs of a jambite and the opened arms of her mother.  Some of my colleagues were around watching the drama unfolding.

A seemingly embarrassed me quickly pulled the girl up and expressed my consternation. “I don’t know you” I murmured. The young girl went ahead to mention that she was one of the beneficiaries of the free UTME forms I sponsored earlier this year. She had passed with a 240 score and had come for the Indigeneship Verification Screening in Lasu. She never met me during that period and her mum never did too. But she had asked the coordinator of the project about me and had done some research about me. I didn’t even know she had become my friend on facebook. These social media days. Lol. So she knew I was studying for my law degree and immediately she was done with her IIVC screening which coincidentally held in my faculty complex, she started to ask every uncle and aunty in the faculty of my whereabouts. My car was shown to her signifying my presence in school. I was locked up in my class taking lectures. So she convinced her mum that they must see me before they left. Lo and behold she met with me.

We had a quick chat and fortunately she had no hiccups with her screening. She was recommended for admission by the screening committee.

I was close to tears. I hid my emotions regardless.

Immediately I penned her name down and I told her mother to go and prepare for other things in anticipation of her admission. I told her the baton was passed on to me and I am passing the baton unto others coming after me. When she graduates and starts earning money, she must do little for humanity. This way the world will be a better place. She nodded in agreement.

If Allah wills, I will be sponsoring her through the four (4) years course. I will do this for humanity. Mio ni sugbon Olorun ase.

I won’t mention her name as we never did with any of the candidates we sponsored during the free UTME exercise.

However I live, may it be said that many others lived well because I lived. This is for humanity
