Five of your six South West ministers must be Muslims- Ishaq Akintola’s MURIC to President Buhari

President Buhari has been implored to appoint at least five Muslim ministers in the South West in the next dispensation

Who remembers Professor Ishaq Akintola? He is the same Islamic cleric who got in the news after dragging rapper, Falz to court over his ‘This is Nigeria’ music video where he showed off ladies in hijab dancing ‘shakushaku’.

All that is history now but the Lagos State University lecturer whose discipline deals with ‘theology of death and judgement’ (Islamic Eschatology) is back in the news and this time, he has a message for President Muhammadu Buhari who has just been elected for a second term in office.

In a statement released today, Professor Akintola who is the founder of the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC (a human rights group) requested that President Buhari must give the South West at least five Christian ministers.

“We are therefore demanding Muslim ministers in all the states where the governors are Christians (Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti). This request should be considered against the backdrop of the gross marginalisation which Yoruba Muslims have faced in the past.”

According to Akintola, by May 29, this year, the South West would have five Christian governors and just one Muslim Governor in Gboyega Oyeleke of Osun. He therefore wants Buhari to settle the Muslims by appointing five of them as ministers.

Akintola who is not new to controversy also in the statement lambasted former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who he said was bias. He alleged that President Jonathan’s six appointed ministers from the South West were all Christians.

“We received the worst treatment under former President Goodluck Jonathan. He appointed six ministers from the sub-region but, to our dismay, all of them were Christians. We complained severally about this gross injustice but he ignored us for three good years (2011 to 2014),” the statement read in part.

BlackBox Nigeria however observe that the Islamic scholar failed to acknowledge the fact that the South West had four Muslim Governors under former President Goodluck Jonathan. The only Christian Governor was Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state while Fashola, Amosun, Ajimobi, Aregbesola and Mimiko of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Ondo are all Muslims. Although Mimiko was later reported to be a practicing Christian despite having a Muslim background.
