FIRST BANK UNDER FIRE AS ACTIVIST, @SEGALINK CRITICIZE THEM FOR #GROSSNEGLIGENCE, CALLS FOR CLASS ACTION SUIT

BlackBox Nigeria reports that popular human right activist, Segun Awosanya popularly known as @Segalink is in the news again, this time it is not for advocating for the reformation or outright overhaul of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS of the Nigerian Police force but to call for the reformation of the banking sector while calling out First Bank Nigeria PLC for professional misconduct.

His over 30 threads of tweet is currently trending with the #GrossNegligence , calling on Nigerians to fight the injustice meted on Mr John Cine Wilcox a customer of the Isheri Ojodu branch of the foremost commercial bank in Nigeria.

@Segalink made it clear that the reason he is coming public now is due to the negligence of myriads of complaints channelled to the bank with no positive response for months now.

The activist while warning Nigerians across the country to desist from leaving their belongings in the locker of any bank as it is now discovered that one key opens all the locks in most cases thereby, making it unsafe in the presence of underpaid guards and lack of functioning CCTV.

Segun Awosanya went back memory lane to recount Mr John Cine Wilcox’s ordeal which started 7 months ago when the foreign video editor visited the bank for a transaction after arriving Nigeria to execute a particular job.

On getting to the locker where the victim kept his life’s work and laptop, he discovered the locker was ajar after which he called the attention of the bank which initially ignored his complaint but later promised to come to his aid with no tangible response until after the news  injustice meted on the foreigner is fast on the rise.

@Segalink while offering the whooping sum of N10 million Naira to various professionals from photo editors, bloggers, cartoonists and to other profession that can make the injustice which is currently trending on twitter  go more viral.

First Bank according to the activist have just a week after the Presidential election to respond by adequately compensating the victim or risk a nationwide protest that will culminate in a class action suit against the financial firm.

Lawyers have also been urged by the activist to throw their weight behind the movement by offering their legal services while concerned citizens should hang on for a date that would be communicated later for the nationwide protest.

Meanwhile on the request of the activist, Nigerians in their numbers are currently joining the conversation on Twitter to recount misconducts meted on them by banks across the country.

BlackBox Nigeria brings you below the thread of tweets currently making  Nigerians spit fire on their financial institution.

Mr John Cine Wilcox

“In the spirit of #SocialJustice I will be calling out @FirstBankngr by the end of day. We have tried dialogue & informed @cenbank of their gross negligence but they have refused to prioritize the case in question. We will be filing & going public @citizen_gavel #GrossNegligence.”

“Please don’t agree to leave your belongings in the locker of any Bank. The padlocks provided are unsafe and one key opens all the locks in most cases. The security men are underpaid and the security cameras are mostly uncaliberated. They don’t care about you or your belongings.”

“The rate at which @FirstBankngr is hurting Nigerians is alarming and this unprofessionalism has to end now. Asides from illegal deductions and retention of millions of cutomer’s money without reversal, here is the worst of their gross negligence.”

“I’m sure they are unaware of which of their corporate crime is making the media waves thus their futile attempt at restitution. I’m sure a few of you have started getting unexpected feedbacks and reversals hours after this thread started from them. Please pay attention.”

“The gentleman here is @johncinewilcox who was invited to Nigeria on an online editing project. He is a young editor renowned for his expertise. But frustrated after his unfortunate encounter with @FirstBankngr’s vile negligence. It’s been 7 months now. @cenbank @CPCNig”

“When he went into one of their branches at Isheri Ojodu to do some transactions. He was told he can’t be allowed in with his bag containing his laptop and hard drives which had all his show reels and lifework.”

“He obeyed and kept his bag in the box provided as guided by the security guard. And he locked it with a key given. He also noticed there was a CCTV in the area.”

“Minutes later he returned to find out that his bag, laptop, hard drives and life work have been stolen. He met the locker ajar. It was at that point he realized that the keys to the lockers can open all others lockers. None was unique.”

The activist attached some of the petition written by the victim while he continued with recounting Mr John Cine Wilcox’s experience.

“He petitioned the bank manager, reported to the police, a report was generated, guard was arrested, the manager agreed to their liability and promised that the insurance firm will pay for the losses.”

“But since then despite all the hurdles presented nothing has been done and we are learning now that the insurance firm is seeking means to shelve liability. 7months of this guy’s life is gone with his life work. His clients are suing him for their jobs that he can’t even recover.”

while attaching pictures of threat received daily Mr John Cine Wilcox customers for loosing their jobs, @segalink wrote further,

“This is a cross section of the kind of threat messages Mr John reads on the daily from clients whose music videos are pending. Many have gone fetish and diabolical on the matter and shrines across Africa are chanting John’s name amidst incantations. When will FirstBank respond?”

“So after a bit of back and forth. A lame letter was sent from First Bank to manage the situation without actually doing anything about it.”

“We had to allow for the engagement of yet another firm to double the effort when we saw nothing was forth coming having seen the psychological torture MR John was going through.”

“Sometimes when I read his messages or speak with him on the phone, I can’t  help tears falling from my eyes. I know how hard it is to lose your life work and have people breathing down your neck. It gets complicated when the people responsible are not prioritizing your issue.”

“They kept managing him with false hope. Bouncing him from the Bank manager to the insurance manager and CBN Liason too kept him on “Is coming” Where on earth is social justice?! Is this how we will allow our citizens be treated by the BiG Banks?!”

“On this one we will call in all the favors and make BIG trouble. The criminal conspiracy here is that, that branch have quickly gone ahead to change the storage locks and their dysfunctional CCTV that only records the ants on the floor. #GrossMisconduct”

“While we’re at this please @citizen_gavel can we prepare a class action suit along side for the none reversal based on the account given on the thread. We only need 50 complainants to establish this & file it together for economic losses and psychological trauma. #GrossNegligence”

“Immediately after Election, that @FirstBankngr branch will host the largest customer Protest ever in the history of Africa. We will be proud to facilitate this if this matter is not resolved in the first week after the Presidential election. DJs, Press, Citizens all invited.”

There will be a Nationwide Protest across @FirstBankngr Branches on behalf of Mr John Cine Wilcox whose life was almost ruined by the #GrossNegligence of the Bank, the criminal deceit by the bank’s insurance company & the indolence Of @cenbank. The theme is blue. Get ready.
