Family Rejects Ikeja Disco’s ₦200,000 Compensation for Electrocuted Widow in Ikorodu

The family of Mutiat Odubeke, the victim of the ill-fated electrocution incident that led to eventual loss of life in the Aga area of Ikorodu on Sunday December 9th of 2018 has rejected the ₦200, 000 compensation presented today by the management of Ikeja Disco.

The family who laid to rest the body of the deceased today, at the Igbogbo-Ibeshe road cemetery of Ikordu around 11 AM rejected the sum on the grounds that it is a far cry from what the family lost on the heels of the incident to medical bills and not enough to emotionally assuage the family.

In a brief interview on the latest development as regards the whole incident with a family member, Black Box Nigeria gathered that the family has lost confidence in the manner the compensation request is handled by the Electric Company and promised to take legal actions as lawsuit will be filed first thing on Monday against the firm.

in his words “The latest development is that the management of Ikeja Disco are trying to muddle up everything , they called the family today immediately after the burial to come for a N200,00 compensation of  which we rejected and plan to file a case against the firm on Monday morning with our family lawyer.”

According to the family member, Tunde Thomson, the sum offered by the firm is grossly inadequate as the family already spent close to 2 Million Naira in footing the hospital bill of the deceased.

He further demands adequate compensation from the Electric Firm for cutting short the life of the 40 year old widow.

“Legal actions will be taken for compensation of the life lost. This is because we have a long life span in our family; the minimum is 85 year old. She has a grandmother, a mother, a son in secondary school and she caters for her mother, her child, she was a widow that was good to the family before she died. Knowing the significance of age in the family we want something tangible.” He Lamented.

He finally assured that the family will pursue the case until Ikeja Disco is brought to book and appealed to the Government for prompt intervention as there are no plans yet to cater for the well-being of the only son left by the deceased who now stay with his maternal grandmother.
