English Side, Brighton Signs Nigerian Born Oxford First Class Graduate, Ini Omotong

English side, Brighton and Hove Albion moments ago announced the signing of Super Falcons striker, Ini Omotong from Oxford United.

The brilliant striker, who made a First Class from Oxford University in what appears to be a big deal for the footballer.

The 23-year-old joins Albion after spending just over a year with fellow FA Women Super League 2 side Oxford, and played against the Seagulls when the two sides contested a 1-1 draw in last season’s FAWSL Spring Series.

Brighton and Hove Women’s first-team assistant manager, Amy Merricks, said, “Ini is a player that we have monitored for a while, and is someone we were well aware of after her spells at both Portsmouth and Oxford.

“She is a proven goal scorer and will add a new dimension to our forward options for the upcoming FAWSL 2 season.”

Umotong has made one cap for Nigeria to date and was the FAWSL 2 top scorer in 2016, scoring 13 goals in 19 appearances.

She also found the net four times in seven games for the U’s in this year’s FAWSL Spring Series.

Prior to joining Oxford, the Nigerian international had a prolific spell at Portsmouth, scoring 29 goals in their 2014/15 FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division title-winning campaign.
