Avengers drama! Funke Akindele out, Genevieve Nnaji in

There appear to be a new scandal brewing in the Nigerian movie industry as ‘Jenifa’ star actress, Funke Akindele might have been dumped for a movie role for her Nollywood counterpart, Genevieve Nnaji.

Days ago, the Nigerian social media space went agog over news that 40-year-old Funke Akindele has been named as a cast in upcoming Marvel Comic’s Avengers: Infinity Wars with many hailing and congratulating her.

However in a dramatic turn of event, BlackBox Nigeria discovered that Funke Akindele’s name was unceremoniously removed. While many were yet to recover from the shock, the producers simply introduced African screen goddess, award winning Genevieve Nnaji to play the same role Funke has earlier been penned for.

What truly transpired is yet to be clarified by the producers but BlackBox Nigeria checks claim Funke Akindele’s with Genevieve replacement might not be unconnected to experience.

While Funke Akindele hasn’t featured in any foreign movie, it will be recalled that Genevieve Nnaji was one of the cast of Chimamanda Adiche’s Half of a Yellow Sun screen adaptation  which stared to Hollywood actors including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton and John Boyega.

“Avengers: Infinity Wars will be the first time a Nigerian actor will be featuring in Superhero movie and it appears the producers are trying to get it right”, a source told BlackBox Nigeria.

The movie also Scarlett Johansson, Chris Pratt, Don Cheadle and Vin Diesel who doubles as Executive Producer.
