The Mexican defeated Anthony Joshua to become the new World Heavyweight Champion

Before now, the name Andy Ruiz rarely rang a bell except amongst Americans conversant with the boxing profession. He was a relatively unknown fighter despite haven won more bouts by then world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua who he has now dethroned.

Ruiz Jr was more or less a lowly ranked fighter to AJ who was feared by everybody in that category. The fact is that after the original challenge Jarrell Miller tested positive to a doping test, Andy Ruiz wasn’t still the immediate replacement. Joshua wanted Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury who for some reasons cannot fight the Nigerian born British fighter at the moment.

Organisers also reach out to Luis Ortiz, a top heavyweight challenger who turned down the offer for unnamed reasons.

Andy Ruiz however warned that he was out to conquer everything Joshua owned but nobody believed him. He vowed to cause an upset and become the first heavyweight champ of the world but still, nobody took him seriously.

“Things happen for a reason, and the reason is for me to become the first Mexican heavyweight champion of the world,” Ruiz said before the epic fight.

He prophesied further, “Joshua’s got all the belts and everybody’s trying to fight him. He’s a big money name. I’m here to conquer what he has.”

Andy Ruiz Jr who was very confident about his fists further added, “l come forward and throw combinations that Joshua hasn’t seen. I hit harder than Jarrell Miller, and I’m faster.”

Yet, NOBODY believed him but now, he has conquered everyone’s darling, AJ.
