After One Week On Twitter, How As African Billionaire, @realFemiOtedola Fared

In this age of leveraging on the ease of connectivity provided by social media, it was news around this time last week, when Billionaire businessman and CEO of Forte Oil, Femi Otedola finally joined Twitter.

Announcing his arrival on twitville, the Son of former Governor of Lagos, Michael Otedola tweeted, “Ote$ with the… #myfirstTweet”, generating 2082 retweets and 4210 likes, well, that is how to know the Boss has arrived.

When real men arrive on the bloc, real men are the first to know, no wonder, top financial analyst and  Founder of Proshare, @OluwafemiAwoyemi was the first to welcome Otedola to the microblogging site, he tweeted , ‘@realfemiotedola Welcome on board!’ and characteristically, Femi responded, ‘Thank you my friend.’

Welcoming her Father to twitter, celebrity disc jockey, DJ Cuppy, wrote, “Please help me welcome my oga at the top to twitter @realFemiOtedola! Also joining her sister, another daughter, Tolani wrote, “The man himself finally joined the Twitter universe! @realfemiotedola Welcome Papa bear! 👊🏾”.

Explaining why his account is yet to be verified, Otedola said Twitter has paused verification for now but he hopes, his account will be considered soon.

“Thank you so much for the warm welcome everyone. @Twitter and @verified have paused verifications for now. Hopefully they will reconsider soon.”

Though Otedola who now as 34, 900 Followers said social media isn’t exactly his forte, he seems to be learning fast as he has been battling with parody accounts trying to patch  him against Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and also scam innocent Nigerians with dubious job offers.

“My attention has been drawn to a news piece where false information from  a parody account was posted. I am a man of the people and I will always be on the side of the masses but I am stating clearly via this medium that I am not running for office, “ he tweeted yesterday debunking rumours he might be considering running for Lagos State Governor’s seat. In his view, “the Governor of Lagos State is doing a commendable job and Lagosians should be proud of him.”

A pinned tweet, warns followers to be wry of impersonators while clarifying the near similarity in the Twitter accounts, “Please beware of impersonators that may try to leverage on my profile. My handle is @realFemiOtedola using the small letter for “L” in real. I just blocked an impersonator that used the capital letter for “i” in real which, when put side by side, look identical. Please beware.”

He stated further that, “Fake accounts in my name have to have the word “parody” in their bio/profile to exist. @verified has recently paused verifications so, until I get the blue tick, please always ensure to read the bio/profile section of accounts that appear to be mine.”
