DPR Dispense Free Petrol In Abuja, Seals Off Erring Fueling Station

A fueling station located in Kubwa, Abuja was on Boxing Day, December 26th caught by officials of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) selling it’s Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) above the control price of N145/Lt and sealed it off.

According to Abuja Zonal Operations Controller of DPR, Mr Mohammed Abba, the operatives acted on a tip-off given by some residents. After discovering it was selling above the approved pump price, it started dispensing the petrol to motorists.

Abba said, ”The station had 6,000 litres of petrol. We got the call from a good Samaritan. When we came, we realised the station is illegal because it is not licensesd and it was selling at N250 per litre.

”We instructed that the product should be dispensed free of charge. We will give them one month to come and regularise the licence, after that if he does not come we will hand over the station and the people concerned to the civil defence to prosecute,

Also on the raid at the fueling station was the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru and Mr Aminu Abdullahi, the Assistant Commandant General, Operations of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Baru disclosed that the NNPC was in collaboration with the DPR and Civil Defence Corps to locate erring stations across the country.

He said, “This collaborative effort of the DPR, Civil Defence and NNPC is to identify stations that are erring in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive for us as agencies to fish out those perpetuating the fuel scarcity.

”This was discovered by the DPR on a tip-off. Government is appreciative and wants Nigerians to come forward with such information on where products are sold above N145″
