PDP Candidate, Obaze Rejects Anambra Poll Results As Obiano Dedicates Victory

The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Oseloka Obaze has rejected the result of the governorship elections in Anambra State, saying it does not reflect what actually happened in the field.

Obaze, who came 3rd in the contest in a statement released on Sunday said the result released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had inconsistency surrounding it.

The Commission had on Sunday declared incumbent Governor, Willie Obiano of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of the election.
The result was announced by the Returning Officer, Professor Zana Akpagu showed that Obiano polled a total of 234,071 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr Tony Nwoye who scored 98,752 votes.

Prof Akpagu declared that Obaze emerged third after scoring 70,293 in the election exercise that had a total Votes Cast of 448,771; total Rejected Votes of 26,457; and total Valid Votes of 422,314.

Obaze’s rejection is coming at a time the victorious Obiano is dedicating his success at the poll to the people of Anambra State in his acceptance speech titled, ‘Time to Build A New World’. He appreciated all the people for coming out to vote and said, “this sweet victory belongs to Ndi Anambra.”

Obaze argued that there were cases of inconsistency and over voting when the voting records is compared to that of the electronic card reader. He also alleged that the victory of Obiano in the 21 LGAs is a political aberration concerning Anambra politics.

He said, “The Anambra governorship election results just released by INEC, does not reflect the realities of the votes cast on Nov. 18 by the Anambra electorate.

“The over voting and inconsistencies between the counted ballots and card reader data remains exceedingly worrisome.

“The uniformity of the incumbent governor wining twenty-one local governments is a political aberration in the context of Anambra politics.

“The election result as reported, shows that nothing matters to the Anambra electorate. The people have spoken, they have taken a cursory long term view of what they wish for Anambra State.”
